Between Light, Noise and Silence.

Barbara Armbruster works with different media and moves between different cultures and continents, between Orient and Occident. In addition to installation photography and performative videos, large-format drawings and paintings also play a role in a multi-layered network of relationships. Her third exhibition at Galerie G focuses on painting.
Entitled “Between Light, Noise and Silence”, it features works in her very own pictorial language, whose repertoire of forms seems light and airy, also evoking floral associations, but also developing a floating momentum of disquieting explosive power. The painting draws directly on a series of watercolours created during BA’s farewell phase from Egypt in Cairo and also in Stuttgart. Parting always means sensitised perception. What do you take with you from a culture? What carries over into one’s own? What can be held on to from that which is completely different? BA answers this question with her own touch and search. The oriental light can never be forgotten, it shines at us in an almost translucent melon yellow and in decided pink tones. La vie en rose, however, never becomes that. The harmony is repeatedly undermined – by strong colour contrasts and dark overpaintings, but also by angular forms, by hooks and points. Fields of tension are created on different levels. The state of suspension is given a disturbing exclamation mark!” (Text by Dr. Gudrun Selz, Gallery G, Freiburg)
