Wondrous Encounter
A “Wondrous Encounter” between painting, drawing and installation works awaits the visitor in the exhibition of Barbara Armbruster’s work at the Vayhinger Gallery in Singen. The walk through the gallery rooms unfolds in an extremely diverse and multi-layered way: abstract, colour-intensive surface compositions are flanked by representations with figurative references to plants or blossoms, strictly geometric forms stand next to dynamic-ornamental line curves that are reminiscent of characters. “…. “In her paintings and graphite drawings, some of which are large-format, Armbruster opens up to the viewer a complex structure not only between the pictorial techniques, motifs and themes, but also between Eastern, Arabic cultures and Western perspectives, between their pictorial languages and forms of perception. Thus, the current series “Hanging Gardens” draws on memories of Cairo, while the formal translation into extremely reduced line fragments picks up on elements of Western modernism.” (Dr Andreas Gabelmann, Südkurier, 20.11.2019
